The position available is for a Prep Cook at Bi-Rite Market, offering a starting wage of $20.50 per hour. This role demands the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to support the dynamic and fast-paced environment of the market. The Prep Cook plays a crucial part in ensuring an inspiring experience for guests by maintaining high standards in product quality, inventory control, and kitchen operations. The role involves preparing all kitchen menu items including staff meals, following specific recipes and cut specifications to Bi-Rite’s standards. Maintaining beautiful, well-stocked food displays in both the Kitchen and Deli departments also falls under this job’s responsibilities.
This role contributes significantly to the smooth and seamless operations of the business by upholding food safety, equipment maintenance, and waste mitigation standards. Beyond these technical duties, the Prep Cook actively participates in fostering a positive internal environment by providing outstanding service to both guests and fellow team members. Job Qualifications
- Six months prep cook experience in a commercial kitchen recommended
- ServSafe Certification, California Food Handler card is required within 30 days post-hire
- Bi-Rite provides on-site paid training and certification
- ability to accurately and effectively utilize kitchen scales, technology and labeling tools in English
- continuous standing and carrying between 11-50+ pounds
- must be 18 years of age or older
Job Duties
- Welcomes guests, provides expertise and assistance in the Kitchen and Deli departments
- responsible for the preparation of all kitchen menu items, including staff meal, following recipes and cut specification to Bi-Rite standards
- maintains menu item availability to create beautiful and bountiful displays
- assists the Deli Department with keeping the department displays neat, clean, accurately labeled, and well-stocked
- puts away inventory, paying close attention to proper rotation, accurate labeling while handling perishable items safely
- handles damaged, out-of-date, spoils, and returned products to department standards
