At Fresh Kitchen, the role of a Prep Cook is essential to the foundation of the restaurant's success. This position entails working directly with food production, preparation, and food safety to ensure that every component of the menu is made according to established recipes and specifications. Prep Cooks are responsible for prepping large volumes of fresh vegetables and proteins, crafting homemade sauces and marinades, baking desserts, and maintaining proper food rotation, storage, and sanitation practices. In addition, they use kitchen machinery safely and effectively, from knives and grills to ovens and food processors. This role requires someone who can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, uphold high cleanliness standards, and help set up the kitchen for a successful shift.

Job Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • ability to work in both hot and cool environments
  • able to lift at least 20 pounds and frequently squat and bend
  • able to work in a fast-paced setting for up to 8 hours daily or as needed

Job Qualifications

  • previous culinary experience with a strong passion for food and people
  • good knife skills
  • ability to read and follow written recipes
  • team player with a good attitude
  • reliable transportation to and from work
  • self accountable in upholding high standards
  • willingness to learn and develop
  • serveSafe food handler certification (or willingness to obtain)

Job Duties

  • prepare and prep high volumes of vegetables and protein
  • make homemade sauces and marinades
  • bake desserts
  • put away and rotate produce and food orders
  • maintain pars and counts of responsible items
  • maintain exceptional food safety and sanitation practices
  • use kitchen machinery properly including knives, ovens, grills, gas stoves, food processors, and blenders
  • follow recipes and adhere to food specs ensuring quality and consistency
  • properly open, close, and clean your station
  • perform additional responsibilities as requested
