Job Description

SSP America is a leading operator of food and beverage outlets located primarily in transportation hubs across the United States, including major airports, train stations, and travel plazas. With a diverse portfolio of well-known dining establishments such as Melt Shop, Dunkin' Donuts, Beecher's, Five Borough, and Eli Zabar's, SSP America delivers high-quality, convenient dining experiences to millions of travelers every year. The company prides itself on offering a wide range of culinary options that cater to different tastes and preferences, while maintaining high standards of food safety and customer service. As part of a global network, SSP America benefits from extensive resources, training programs, and career advancement opportunities that make it an attractive employer for employees passionate about the hospitality and food service industry.

The role of Prep Cook at SSP America plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of their restaurant locations at LaGuardia Airport. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage of $21.25 alongside full benefits and opportunities for career growth within the organization. A Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients, assembling dishes, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives under pressure, has a strong positive attitude, and demonstrates the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

As a Prep Cook, you will be expected to follow detailed recipes accurately, check portions, apply garnishes, and present dishes in an appealing manner. Your responsibilities will also include setting up your work station each shift with the correct and sufficient ingredients, managing inventory by properly storing, rotating, and handling fresh, frozen, and dry goods, condiments, and supplies. Batch preparation and assembly of multiple portions is a daily task, allowing kitchen operations to meet the high-volume demand typical of airport food service. Additionally, you will complete control sheets when requested, and be accountable for cleaning and tidying your work area along with storage spaces, using the appropriate cleaning products as directed by management to comply with hygiene and safety standards.

SSP America promotes an inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, veteran status, age, disability, genetic information, or other protected characteristics, ensuring a fair and respectful environment for all employees. Reasonable accommodations are available during the application and interview process as needed.

In addition to these responsibilities, SSP America integrates innovative hiring methods such as Traitify assessments, which provide insights into candidates' personalities to better align with company culture. This tool is part of their commitment to a thorough and fair hiring process, with transparency and compliance with all applicable laws.
