Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3-6 months of related experience
  • ability to type and use computer systems
  • professional communication skills
  • proficiency in filing and organization
  • ability to maintain confidentiality of medical information
  • basic math skills
  • customer service orientation
  • ability to work under mental and visual fatigue
  • physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, sit, and lift light objects
  • maintain positive working relationships
  • ability to perform light clerical duties
  • willingness to engage in ongoing training and education

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3-6 months of related experience
  • previous experience working with medical insurance highly preferred
  • keyboarding and computer skills
  • experience with hospital-based programs or practice management systems such as Medic, Misys, or Tiger preferred
  • excellent verbal and communication skills
  • good math skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality
  • strong organizational and prioritization abilities
  • customer service skills
  • ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • knowledge of hospital safety and infection control policies

Job Duties

  • Answer phones and greet patients
  • schedule and coordinate patient appointments, tests, and referrals
  • perform patient check-in and registration
  • prepare and retrieve patient files
  • verify insurance and determine patient co-payments
  • enter charges and payments into practice management system
  • maintain patient medical records
  • handle telephone calls and messages professionally
  • complete clerical tasks such as filing, faxing, copying, and ordering supplies
  • prepare correspondence and reports
  • maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • engage in continuous education and training
  • assist with special projects and assignments
  • maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • run reports and verify deposit accuracy
  • manage provider schedules, including meetings and cancellations
