The Power Plant Operator role at GE Aerospace’s Lynn facility plays a critical part in supporting complex manufacturing operations by ensuring the reliable and safe operation of the facility's power plant. This role involves operating boilers and boiler auxiliaries, maintaining steam temperature and boiler pressure, monitoring water treatment and chemical balances, and responding promptly to alarms and emergencies. The Power Plant Operator will work under the guidance of the Power Plant Engineer and must adhere to all state regulations concerning boiler and turbine operations while ensuring accurate documentation and reporting. The position requires the individual to be physically capable of managing tasks involving elevated heat, noise, confined spaces, and working at heights, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and operational protocols. This is a rotating shift position with a schedule of four 10-hour days, and additional weekly overtime opportunities available. The hourly wage for this role is $40, with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance. Job Requirements

  • Power Plant Operators must wear proper PPE for work being performed
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts
  • Willing to work in area with elevated heat and noise
  • Ability to lift, move and manipulate fixtures and component hardware up to 40 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to work in confined areas, off ladders, platforms and heights
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must hold a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineer's License

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education (GED)
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineer's License
  • Experience as an operating engineer preferred
  • Experience with operation of oil and gas fired high pressure boilers, water softeners, air compressors, and related auxiliary equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety rules in an industrial setting
  • Familiarity with computers, applications, and keyboarding

Job Duties

  • Operate all boilers and boiler auxiliaries in the power plant including all types of equipment to support the entire facility
  • Support the organization and determination of boiler load and load distribution
  • Report operating conditions to and operate under the direction of Power Plant Engineer
  • Maintain communication between operators and ensure proper operating conditions including boiler pressure, steam temperature, and water levels
  • Respond to emergencies, report unsafe conditions, and keep the area clean
  • Monitor alarm panel and take appropriate actions or notify personnel
  • Conduct water tests to determine characteristics such as sulfate, alkalinity, phosphate, solids, and oxygen
  • Prepare and maintain records and make necessary corrections to control water condition
  • Maintain proper water treatment
  • Comply with all state regulations regarding boiler and turbine operation and complete required records and logs
  • Maintain knowledge of all power plant systems, including steam, water, condensate, surge tank, compressed air lines, and other relevant systems
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment and provide communication to other Power Plant Operators and Engineers
  • Perform additional duties as required
  • Work rotating shifts including 4/10 hour days with additional weekly overtime available
