The Porter 1 position at Russ & Daughters Brooklyn plays a critical role in ensuring the cleanliness, organization, and overall smooth operation of the facility. This entry-level role is essential for maintaining sanitation standards across all workspaces including dishwashing stations, bathrooms, and shared areas. The Porter 1 assists in receiving and stocking goods, making certain deliveries match invoices, and supports kitchen operations by keeping all areas well-stocked and orderly. A Porter 1 works under the guidance of the Production Manager and other supervisory staff to complete cleaning tasks, maintain safety protocols, and contribute to an efficient, cooperative team environment.

  • willingness to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours when required
  • manual dexterity to cut, chop, and mix foods and perform related tasks

Job Qualifications

  • High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics such as food safety, preferred

  • basic understanding of or ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures using standard recipes
  • basic understanding of or ability to learn how to use, operate, maintain, and clean culinary equipment including knives, scales, mixers, ovens, stoves

  • ability to communicate with coworkers and kitchen leadership

Job Duties

  • Maintains cleanliness of all work areas, bathrooms, and shared spaces
  • sets up and maintains all dishwashing stations including dish machines, sinks and other related equipment
  • assists in food, equipment, and other material receiving and stocking ensuring products delivered are as invoiced
  • cleans, stocks/restocks, and breaks down work location throughout and especially at end of shift
  • possesses a positive attitude and works cooperatively with all co-workers
  • performs any additional assigned related duties
