Custodians also manage the upkeep of custodial storage areas and utilize various cleaning tools and equipment, such as blowers, weed eaters, floor scrubbers, and pressure washers, to perform assigned tasks efficiently.

Working under general supervision with a flexible schedule subject to change according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, individuals in this role must be able to work irregular shifts and multitask effectively to meet deadlines. The position requires adherence to safety and sanitation standards, proper use of cleaning supplies and equipment, and the ability to recognize and report potential safety hazards or necessary repairs. The Custodian is expected to maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times, fostering good working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.

This role demands physical stamina, as custodians are frequently required to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Tasks may also include climbing, stooping, kneeling, and using hands and arms to operate equipment safely. Mental aptitude is important to understand and follow written and oral instructions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. The work environment can present exposure to various weather conditions, chemicals, and noise.

To qualify for this employment opportunity, candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a minimum of six months of custodial service experience, and be at least 21 years old. A valid California Class C Driver License is required. Experience in a public transit or governmental setting is preferred but not mandatory.
