The Pet Groomer Trainee role at PetSmart is designed to provide aspiring pet stylists the opportunity to learn and grow within an industry-leading grooming team. This position is intended for individuals passionate about working with animals and who desire to develop their grooming skills through hands-on experience and guidance from seasoned professionals. The trainee will undergo the PetSmart Grooming Academy training and receive continuous mentorship from experienced groomers to master a full menu of grooming services including bathing, brushing, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. The trainee’s responsibilities include engaging with pet parents to ensure a positive salon experience, upholding safety and sanitation protocols, and contributing to store cleanliness. The role fosters a collaborative work environment where associates share the responsibility for pet safety and exceptional care standards.
This is a part-time or full-time position with pay options based on grooming sales or base rate, never falling below local minimum wage. Job Requirements
- Must be over the age of 18 except where local laws vary
- Flexibility in scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch frequently
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally team lift more than 100 pounds
- Ability to handle live animals and exposure to noise and wet environments
- Must be able to perceive depth vision
- Ability to communicate effectively with pet parents and team members
Job Qualifications
- Successful completion of PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program
- Prior grooming experience preferred
- proficiency in computer applications
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Job Duties
- Perform full menu of bath, brush and grooming services while under supervision
- Develop safe technical grooming skills to meet company standards
- Recommend additional health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience in person, by phone, and at the sales register
- Greet customers and assist with salon reservations
- Conduct salon appointment reminders and maintain client records
- Perform check-in and check-out procedures including paperwork and rebooking
- Promote salon sales to meet targets and sales metrics
- Recommend and sell merchandise and services
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of grooming area
- Take immediate action for sick or injured pets, including vet transport
- Assist in other departments as needed
- Participate in company culture of belonging and recognition
- Follow all company policies and procedures
