Job Description
Shef is a modern-day shared personal chef service aimed at connecting talented chefs with busy individuals and families seeking high-quality meals delivered right to their homes. Unlike traditional restaurant jobs, Shef offers a platform that empowers independent chefs to build and scale their own culinary businesses. The company handles critical facets such as delivery, customer service, and logistics, freeing chefs to focus exclusively on what they do best: cooking delicious, nutritious meals. This service is especially designed for chefs who want to escape the traditional restaurant grind, shorten their commutes, and enjoy flexible hours by setting their own schedules. Operating primarily in the Bay Area, Shef is dedicated to providing curated subscription meal plans that cater to the needs of modern families looking for convenient meal solutions without compromising on quality or taste.
The role at Shef is tailored for experienced private chefs, meal prep chefs, and restaurant professionals who have a culinary school background or at least 3 years of experience in restaurant kitchens. Chefs joining this innovative platform will have the opportunity to create and cook meals for a weekly subscription service focusing on easy lunches and dinners. This subscription-based model ensures steady, recurring revenue, making it economically stable for participating chefs. Each chef undergoes a thorough vetting process including taste testing and menu workshops to ensure offerings meet Shef's high standards. Compensation is structured as a flat fee per serving sold, with earnings ranging from $100 to $1,000 daily, depending on the volume and quality of servings prepared.
Chefs on Shef’s platform are expected to handle at least 20 servings daily and must have the capacity and space for efficient high-volume cooking. Essential qualifications include a valid food handler’s or food manager’s certificate or a willingness to obtain one promptly, along with experience in costing and sourcing organic, high-quality ingredients at a restaurant level. The ideal candidates are passionate about solving mealtime stress for families, meticulous about food safety and cleanliness, and professional in their communication and service delivery. Chefs who specialize in Mediterranean, Italian, New American, Mexican, Middle Eastern, East Asian, or Southeast Asian cuisines are especially encouraged to apply.
This chef role is not a typical restaurant position; rather, it is an entrepreneurial opportunity within a supportive platform that provides the backing needed to grow a personal culinary business. Chefs are expected to be motivated, responsive, and able to cook between one and four days a week with the flexibility to adapt to customer preferences and dietary trends. The role demands strong culinary skills, creativity in meal preparation, ability to handle multiple orders efficiently, and the business acumen required to scale a food service venture. Team collaboration with Shef’s delivery and logistics components also plays an important part in providing a seamless customer experience. This position offers cooks the freedom to pursue their passion with a lucrative earning potential, a predictable workflow via subscription orders, and the ability to maintain a high standard of quality and customer satisfaction.
