Job Description

This opportunity is presented by the United States Navy, a prestigious branch of the U.S. military dedicated to maintaining national security and providing exceptional medical and dental care to service members. The Navy operates state-of-the-art medical facilities across various locations including Illinois, California, Washington, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and more, supporting the oral health and readiness of military personnel. As a government employer, the Navy is renowned for its commitment to offering comprehensive benefits, competitive compensation, and a balanced professional environment, making it an exceptional place to advance a career in healthcare specialties such as periodontics.

The periodontics position is a full-time, in-person role that offers an outstanding total annual compensation ranging from $178,883 to $230,461. Candidates can expect a highly competitive financial package that includes additional retention and specialty incentive payments, as well as board certification pay. This role is perfectly designed for dental specialists interested in diagnosing and treating periodontal diseases, performing surgeries that manage gum health, such as implant placement and bone grafting, and leading clinical teams in a collaborative environment. The position not only emphasizes clinical excellence but also involves mentoring dental staff and contributing to research that advances periodontal care methods.

Working within the Navy provides an incredible work-life balance with no production requirements, allowing professionals to focus fully on patient care without undue pressure to meet quotas. The position includes generous housing options, either through a stipend or free housing on base, and robust education benefits through the Forever G.I. Bill, offering over $200,000 in educational support including housing allowances and book stipends for service members and their dependents. This is a rare opportunity for a periodontist to integrate their expertise within a supportive network that prioritizes top-tier patient care and comprehensive professional growth.

Moreover, the role is fortified by exceptional benefits such as comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for both the provider and their dependents, CME allowances, generous paid time off (30 days annually), all federal holidays off, and paid maternity and paternity leave. The environment is purpose-built for the provision of excellent service to military personnel, with patients’ care paid for directly by the military, eliminating concerns about out-of-pocket expenses or insurance reimbursements. This ensures that periodontists can deliver care that is patient-focused and free from financial complications.

The United States Navy invites qualified candidates with a DMD or DDS from an accredited U.S. dental school, completion or near completion of a CODA-accredited periodontics residency, and board certification or eligibility in periodontics to apply. U.S. citizenship and age eligibility per Title 10 U.S. Code sections 531 and 532 are also essential. Joining the Navy as a periodontist represents a meaningful career path where your skills will have a direct impact on the health and readiness of service members while offering unparalleled professional stability, career advancement, and lifestyle benefits.
