This opportunity is for a Performance Dietitian within GDIT, a role critical to supporting federal civilian agencies. As a Performance Dietitian, you will provide specialized nutrition care and performance-focused dietary guidance aimed at optimizing the health, recovery, and operational readiness of personnel. This position involves delivering direct access medical nutrition therapy, developing evidence-based nutrition protocols, and supporting rehabilitation and return-to-duty pathways. You will work collaboratively with leadership and human performance teams to promote effective fueling practices and enhance performance nutrition across various training and rehabilitation environments. The role requires individual counseling, group education sessions, laboratory-informed assessments, and close coordination with command and food services. This is a contingent position expected to start in 2027, with opportunities available at various CONUS and OCONUS sites. The likely salary range for this position is between $72,877 and $98,599, depending on experience and location. This role requires U.S. citizenship and involves less than 10% travel. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in nutrition science or related field
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD) from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Sport and/or Performance Dietitian with individual and groups of athletes
  • Specialty certification as Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or willingness to obtain within six months if deferred
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain Secret or Top-Secret clearance
  • Readiness to work at various OCONUS and CONUS sites
  • Less than 10% travel availability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science or related field
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Masters degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Sport and/or Performance Dietitian with athletes at NCAA Division I, Olympic, professional sports, USAF CRAFT, USAF SWTW, or SOF Operators levels
  • Specialty certification as Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) is preferred
  • Ability to earn CSSD certification within six months if deferred
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience with developing nutrition protocols and delivering education sessions

Job Duties

  • Function as direct access providers, evaluating and counseling personnel without a referral
  • Provide individual and group nutritional planning, screening, assessment, intervention, counseling, and documentation guided by evidence-based literature
  • Collaborate and consult with the chain of command on nutrition-related issues
  • Conduct individualized nutrition assessments including labs and hydration assessments
  • Provide small and large group education on performance nutrition
  • Develop protocols to optimize performance and readiness
  • Develop protocols for rehabilitation and return to duty
  • Serve as an advisor on dining facility nutrition and coordinate between food service and command
  • Advise on sports foods, dietary supplements, medical foods, and performance enhancing substances within the program and unit command
