The Director of People role is a critical leadership position within JAG's Washington, DC market, reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and President. This full-time position, offering a competitive salary range of $110,000 to $130,000 plus bonus and benefits, is designed for an experienced and strategic human resources professional who can lead the People & Culture function. The successful candidate will act as a senior People partner, supporting restaurant leadership by driving business results through innovative and effective people practices.
This role demands a visionary leader who can strategically align human resources initiatives with business objectives, especially within a dynamic and fast-paced hospitality environment. The Director of People will oversee every phase of the employee lifecycle, from talent acquisition to employee engagement, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness. Their work will be instrumental in building high-performing teams, enhancing leadership capabilities, and ensuring an exceptional employee experience across multiple restaurant concepts.
In addition to strategic oversight, this position requires hands-on involvement in workforce planning, compliance, and risk management. The Director will also champion a positive culture anchored in accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement. They will collaborate with senior operations leadership, general managers, and directors to utilize workforce analytics to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions that enhance retention, engagement, and operational performance.
Furthermore, the Director of People will lead complex employee relations matters including workplace investigations, performance management coaching, and conflict resolution, providing expert guidance grounded in employment law. Integrating leadership development with talent management strategies will be a key focus to foster internal mobility and succession planning, ensuring the organization’s long-term stability and growth.
The role also includes driving HR operational excellence by refining processes and partnering with corporate teams on company-wide initiatives. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, hospitality management, or related field required
- 8+ years of progressive human resources leadership experience
- Multi-unit hospitality, restaurant, hotel, or retail experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success partnering with senior operational leadership
- Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, and hr best practices
- Proven experience leading workplace investigations and performance management
- Excellent coaching, communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong analytical and business acumen with the ability to leverage workforce data
- Experience with HRIS systems
- Paylocity experience preferred
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent hr certification preferred
- Ability to travel between Washington, DC restaurant locations as business needs require

- Serve as the primary People & Culture advisor to senior Operations leadership
