The company is expanding with a new dining site and is currently hiring for the role of Part-time Dining Sushi Chef. This position offers an exciting opportunity for seasoned sushi chefs to join a dynamic team dedicated to delivering authentic Japanese cuisine with precision and artistry. All new hires will undergo pre-opening training at the Gardena store, ensuring they are well-prepared and fully equipped to contribute to the new site’s success.

The Part-time Dining Sushi Chef role is integral to Marukai Corp’s mission of providing a superior dining experience. The chef will be responsible for preparing a wide variety of sushi dishes, including appetizers, nigiri, sashimi, maki rolls, and specialty rolls. The role demands an artist’s touch combined with rigorous adherence to food safety standards and quality control, ensuring all dishes are not only delicious but visually appealing. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional skills in fish and seafood handling, cutting, and slicing, along with an in-depth knowledge of Japanese cuisine and traditional sushi techniques. Beyond culinary expertise, the chef will maintain a clean and organized sushi station, ensuring proper storage and rotation of ingredients. As a collaborative team member, the sushi chef will prioritize and coordinate orders efficiently to provide timely and accurate service to customers. The position requires flexibility, including availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Job Requirements

  • Certified food handler
  • Proven experience as a sushi chef working in a high-volume quality-driven sushi restaurant
  • In-depth knowledge of sushi techniques Japanese cuisine and traditional sushi ingredients
  • Strong creativity and ability to develop innovative and visually appealing sushi presentations
  • Excellent knife skills and expertise in fish and seafood preparation handling and cutting
  • Solid understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings weekends and holidays as required
  • Valid California driver license

Job Qualifications

  • Certified food handler

  • In-depth knowledge of sushi techniques Japanese cuisine and traditional sushi ingredients
  • Strong creativity and ability to develop innovative and visually appealing sushi presentations

  • Solid understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Relevant certifications such as sushi chef certificate or culinary degree are a plus

Job Duties

  • Prepare a wide variety of sushi dishes including appetizers nigiri sashimi maki rolls and specialty rolls with precision and artistry
  • Ensure the highest quality and freshness of ingredients adhering to strict food safety and hygiene standards
  • Demonstrate exceptional knife skills and proper techniques in fish and seafood handling cutting and slicing
  • Maintain a clean and organized sushi station including the proper storage and rotation of ingredients
  • Work as part of the kitchen team coordinate and prioritize orders ensuring timely and accurate delivery of sushi dishes to customers
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and knowledgeable manner answering questions and accommodating dietary preferences and restrictions
  • Collaborate with the management team to optimize inventory levels control food costs and maintain profitability
