The Pastry Prep Cook position at Levy in Portland, OR, offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team responsible for preparing and serving high-quality food in accordance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. This role focuses primarily on producing pastries and other baked goods to the standards set by the Chef and the department. The Pastry Prep Cook will follow detailed production schedules and recipes, ensuring that every item meets Levy’s strict quality and consistency benchmarks. The position requires attention to detail in the completion of production worksheets, waste logs, and other required documentation. This role also involves food safety practices including proper labeling, dating, storage, and adherence to HACCP guidelines to prevent contamination and maintain food quality.
In addition to food preparation, the Pastry Prep Cook engages directly with customers by taking orders and preparing items with quick turnaround times. Team members serve customers with friendly and efficient service at multiple stations, including steam tables and grills when needed. The ability to respond to customer concerns and maintain a positive dining experience is essential. Equipment operation and cleaning responsibilities are critical to maintaining a safe and sanitary working environment. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior experience in food preparation or culinary work preferred
- ability to understand and follow recipes and production instructions
- knowledge of federal, state, and local food safety regulations
- ability to operate and clean kitchen equipment
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- capacity to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks
- willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous experience in a food preparation or culinary role preferred
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- ability to follow detailed recipes and production schedules
- strong communication and customer service skills
- ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
- basic math skills for portion control and measurements
Job Duties
- Obtain daily production schedule and preparation requirements from the Chef
- prepare items on production sheets following established quantities and recipes
- complete and follow daily production worksheets and waste log sheets
- taste completed meals to ensure quality
- operate and clean equipment per department procedures after each use
- store, label and date all food items according to policy
- follow HACCP guidelines to ensure quality and safety
- take orders from customers and prepare items requiring short preparation time
- serve customers in an efficient and friendly manner
- complete orders from steam tables and grill and serve customers at multiple stations
- resolve customer concerns
- perform other duties as assigned
