The Pastry Helper position based in Boston is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant team that supports pastry chefs and cooks in creating delightful desserts and cold meals. This full-time role is offered at a competitive hourly wage of $19.75 and comes with comprehensive benefits including 401K, medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible employees. The role plays a vital part in maintaining high standards of food preparation by assisting in mixing pastry products, preparing and plating fruit salads and other cold desserts, and performing various station duties such as fruit cutting, economy packing, and assembling. The Pastry Helper supports the kitchen team in ensuring adequate supply inventory, upholding food safety standards, and contributing to a cooperative work environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food preparation environment is an asset
  • Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Physical ability to handle kitchen tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Job Duties

  • Assist pastry production team, chefs, and cooks with mixing pastry products, plating cold meals such as fruit salads and pastries
  • Use knife skills for cutting and peeling fruit
  • Perform tasks in different stations such as fruit cutting station, economy packing station, juice station, basket station, assembling and plating food
  • Ensure adequacy of supplies at cooking stations
  • Store ingredients and food items according to food safety standards
  • Follow guidance of executive or sous chef
  • Assist kitchen staff to unload food supplies from delivery trucks
  • Help maintain a climate of smooth and friendly cooperation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
