The AT&T Hotel and Conference Center, situated prominently in the heart of the University of Texas (UT) campus, is a distinguished establishment owned by UT Austin and managed by Compass Group North America. The organization prides itself on fostering diversity and inclusion, ensuring all associates receive fair and consistent treatment while providing equal opportunities for career growth. \n\nWe are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Pastry Cook to join our team full-time in a daytime role at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center. This role is essential in maintaining the high culinary standards expected by our guests, particularly in the Pastry and Bake Shop. As a Pastry Cook, your primary responsibilities will include planning, prepping, setting up, and preparing a variety of quality baked goods and desserts such as pastries, breads, ice creams, sorbets, creams, simple syrups, and jams. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating appealing displays and centerpieces that meet departmental quality standards. Cleanliness, organization, and adherence to sanitation protocols are key components of this position, ensuring a safe and efficient kitchen environment. \n\nThe role demands a thorough understanding and practical application of recipes and safety standards, as well as proficiency in food preparation and inventory control. The Pastry Cook will routinely prepare food according to Flik recipe cards, handle orders including special requests, monitor food container dates, practice stringent safety and sanitation standards, and manage food waste and costs effectively. Collaboration and communication skills are highly valued, as the Pastry Cook will assist with shift setups and prep work, maintain proper storage and labeling of food items, and respond promptly to management requests. Familiarity with kitchen operations and a flexible approach to scheduling are important for success in this dynamic position at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center, where we prioritize quality, guest satisfaction, and continuous professional development.

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • experience in food preparation or baking preferred
  • ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • legal authorization to work in the United States

Job Duties

  • Prepare food of consistent quality following Flik recipe cards
  • date all food containers and rotate per standard operating procedures
  • practice safety standards at all times
  • bake/prepare orders as requested including special requests
  • start food items prepared ahead of time without preparing over estimated needs
  • practice sanitation standards and ensure perishables are kept at proper temperatures
  • properly portion all items on assigned station
  • control food waste, loss and usage per SOP
  • assist in setting up plans and actions to correct food cost problems
  • check pars for shift use and determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up
  • note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages
  • assist in keeping buffet stocked
  • assist in prep work of vegetables and condiments for next shift
  • return unused food items to designated storage areas properly covered and dated
  • carry out all reasonable requests by management within capabilities
