The Pastry Cook position at The Heritage at Brentwood is a full-time role offering $24.00 per hour with a flexible schedule and no late-night shifts, making it an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals seeking balance between work and personal life. Working under the guidance of the Pastry Chef, the Pastry Cook will be responsible for preparing pastries, baked goods, and desserts that cater to the needs of the Food & Beverage department, community residents, daily specials, and special events. This role requires someone with a genuine passion for baking and attention to detail, who can maintain the highest standards of food quality and presentation.

The person in this role will support multiple dining venues within the community, including Fireside Grille, which serves American classics throughout the day, Southern Oak, an upscale dining experience for elegant dinners Monday through Friday, and the Corner Market, which offers freshly baked pastries and coffee. Additionally, the Pastry Cook will provide baked goods for catered events throughout the community, playing an integral role in ensuring every occasion is special and memorable.

Beyond baking and preparation, the Pastry Cook is expected to organize pastry production efficiently and cost-effectively while adhering strictly to health and safety standards. Maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary workstation is critical, alongside complying with personal hygiene and dress code requirements. The candidate must be familiar with the proper operation and maintenance of kitchen equipment to ensure smooth daily operations. This position not only requires technical skill but also creativity and the ability to adapt recipes to meet special dietary needs and customer preferences.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • at least 3 years of pastry cooking experience
  • experience working in a professional kitchen environment
  • strong understanding of baking techniques and food safety
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • good communication skills
  • reliable and punctual
  • ability to provide photo samples of work
  • willingness to undergo pre-employment background check and drug screening

Job Qualifications

  • minimum of 3 years professional pastry cooking experience
  • experience in hotels, restaurants, country clubs or similar establishments
  • ability to understand and follow instructions in English
  • effective communication skills
  • knowledge of measurements, conversions, nutrition, and dietary considerations
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • ability to provide photo samples of dessert and pastry creations
