The role of Pastry Chef at UnCruise Adventures is vital to the culinary team responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences through high-quality baked goods and desserts. This position offers a unique opportunity to work onboard during the 2026 Summer Sailing Season, providing room and board during scheduled rotations, a travel stipend, pro deals, credential reimbursement, and health care benefits once qualifications are met. As a Pastry Chef, you will be responsible for preparing all breads, pastries, and desserts offered to guests and crew, ensuring a consistently delicious and visually appealing presentation. This role also involves assisting with meal plate-up, supporting the galley utility team when needed, and participating in galley cleaning duties. Occasionally, you may be called upon to contribute to preparing savory items or crew meals.

Working in a close-quarter environment onboard the ship means you will need to collaborate closely with other crew members and adapt to a rotation schedule consisting of six to eight weeks sailing followed by two to three weeks off. The living quarters require flexibility, as private rooms are not available due to limited space. Essential certifications include ServSafe Allergens, Alaska Food Handler permit, CPR/First Aid/AED training, and valid government identification that complies with REAL ID standards or a passport. The position demands strong time management skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and effective communication with the chef and other crew.

This is a physically demanding role where you must be capable of working 12-hour shifts seven days a week for several weeks at a time, managing the physical requirements of moving heavy items, working in all weather conditions, and adapting to the shipboard lifestyle. Compliance with CDC and FDA sanitation standards and participation in safety drills and training are mandatory to ensure the wellbeing of guests and crew. The base pay for this position is $180 per day plus a guaranteed tip of $70. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in a general kitchen or galley setting
  • Minimum of 2 years working with pastries and desserts
  • Proficient in creating breads, desserts, and pastries for guests with special diets and allergies such as gluten free, dairy free, nut allergies, etc
  • Good time management skills
  • Hardworking, flexible and willing to communicate professionally with the Chef and other crew members
  • Able to get along with co-workers and support a team environment
  • Comfortable living and working in close quarters for many weeks at a time without days off

Job Duties

  • Plan and oversee the production and presentation of all breads, pastries, cookies and desserts
  • Prepare items for special diets for guests and crew as needed for vegan, gluten free, nut allergies, etc
  • Assist the Pastry Chef (on rare occasions) in prepping or cooking meals in addition to baking responsibilities
  • Assist the Chef(s) with plate-up and clean-up of breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily including supporting the dish station
  • Assist with weekly storing of provisions even if working as an overnight baker
  • Maintain accurate inventories to ensure appropriate stocking levels and proper rotation of perishable food stores including cleaning and organization of all storage areas
  • Assist with maintaining proper sanitation in the galley under the Chef's discretion
  • Interact with guests in a friendly and courteous manner, escort guests to stateroom at start of cruise, assist with handling luggage, participate in evening activities and galley tours as directed
