Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer focused on arts and crafts, known for being the premier destination for creativity and celebration in North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, with a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, emphasizing its commitment to quality and service. Michaels is dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for all customers and team members, prioritizing inclusion, creativity, and the joy of crafting. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Michaels is committed to full inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to contribute and thrive within the company.

The role based in the Midland, TX store involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, to provide a memorable, stress-free, and engaging experience for guests. This position requires a dynamic individual who can manage multiple events simultaneously, create a welcoming environment that fosters creativity for guests ranging in age from 4 to 94 years old, and successfully deliver on Michaels' Brand Promises. The event coordinator will engage directly with clients, demonstrating craft projects, leading activities such as face painting, and managing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons. Communication is vital in this role, as responsibilities include coordinating with clients and store team members, managing administrative tasks, and adjusting updates based on client feedback. Ensuring client satisfaction and maintaining a clean and safe environment before, during, and after events are also core components of this role.

Beyond event coordination, this role involves providing outstanding customer service. The coordinator will assist customers in shopping, locating products, and finding solutions while promoting Michaels’ Rewards program and private label credit cards. The role requires fast and friendly checkout experiences and support for omnichannel processes, such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The position demands hands-on involvement in operational tasks, including truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery and maintenance, adherence to planogram standards, and store cleanliness, including regular sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom upkeep.

The ideal candidate is energetic, enthusiastic, and possesses excellent people skills. Experience working with children and managing children’s events is essential, as is strong communication capability across verbal, nonverbal, and written formats. Organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and creative problem solving are highly valued. The role requires physical stamina, including standing for long periods, bending, lifting, reaching, and occasionally accessing high shelves or moving heavy boxes. The work environment is a public retail setting with climate-controlled areas and some outdoor duties, with working hours that can include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Michaels places a strong emphasis on the wellbeing of its team members, offering comprehensive benefits to both full-time and part-time employees. These benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, generous employee discounts, and more, underscoring Michaels' commitment to supporting its workforce.
