Job Description
Michaels is a leading retail destination specializing in arts, crafts, framing, floral, and home decor supplies. With over 1,300 stores located across 49 states and Canada, Michaels has established itself as the premier place for creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels aims to fuel the joy of creativity and provide customers with a diverse range of products and engaging experiences. The company also owns Artistree, a renowned manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further expanding its footprint in the craft and framing industry. Michaels is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers and team members, emphasizing diversity and equal opportunity in employment.
The role of Event Coordinator at a Michaels store in Columbus, GA, is vital in creating memorable and enjoyable experiences for customers. This position focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including children’s birthday parties and other craft-related activities. The Event Coordinator ensures that all guests, regardless of age, feel engaged and have a fun, stress-free time. This role combines customer service, event management, and operational responsibilities, making it both dynamic and rewarding.
An Event Coordinator actively interacts with clients, demonstrating crafts, face painting, and other creative activities while ensuring all events meet company standards. They handle administrative tasks like answering emails and making phone calls to coordinate events effectively. Additionally, the role requires adapting plans based on client feedback and preparing backup strategies to manage unforeseen circumstances smoothly. Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is also a critical part of the job.
Beyond event coordination, the Event Coordinator supports the overall customer experience by assisting shoppers in finding products, enrolling customers in the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, and educating them about the Voice of Customer survey. This position also supports operational duties such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and participating in safety and shrink control programs. Cross-training in custom framing selling and production is provided to help team members support multiple store functions.
Candidates ideally possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Experience working with children and conducting children's events is highly valued, along with previous retail or customer service background. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy boxes, and perform tasks requiring bending and reaching is required. The work environment includes a climate-controlled store with some non-climate-controlled stockrooms and occasional outdoor duties such as retrieving shopping carts or unloading trucks.
Michaels offers competitive employment benefits, including opportunities for 401(k) participation with employer match, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition and adoption assistance, and employee discount programs. The company values its team members and strives to provide an inclusive, supportive workplace where creativity and customer satisfaction are priorities. Employment is subject to complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements, and reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities to participate fully in the job.
