Job Description
The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail chain operating over 1,300 stores across 49 U.S. states and Canada, as well as online. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the premier destination for creative projects and celebrations. The company also owns Artistree, a specialized manufacturer of custom framing products, which complements its wide range of craft supplies and services. With a foundational purpose to fuel joy through creativity and celebration, Michaels aims to make crafting accessible and enjoyable for customers of all ages and interests.
Michaels prides itself on fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment that prioritizes the wellbeing of its team members. Both full-time and part-time employees enjoy a variety of benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company is committed to equal opportunity employment and ensuring reasonable accommodations are provided for individuals with disabilities, reflecting its dedication to diversity and inclusion across all locations.
This position is within a Michaels retail store located in Solon, OH, focusing on event coordination and customer engagement. The role involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. The primary goal is to create a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for customers while delivering excellent customer service that helps shoppers find what they need efficiently.
As an Event Coordinator at Michaels, you will manage multiple events simultaneously, ensuring each runs smoothly and meets customer expectations. Your responsibilities include crafting a welcoming and creative atmosphere for guests of all ages, from young children to seniors, by guiding them through craft projects and entertaining activities such as face painting. You will also handle administrative duties like communicating with clients, organizing event details, and making necessary adjustments based on client feedback.
Your role extends beyond events to include supporting the overall store operations. This includes tasks such as unloading trucks, stocking shelves, managing merchandise recovery, and ensuring the store adheres to cleanliness and safety standards. You will also assist customers directly on the sales floor by helping them locate products, explaining the benefits of loyalty programs and credit cards, and completing purchases quickly and courteously. Cross-training in custom framing sales and production is part of the role, adding a specialized aspect to your customer service duties.
The work environment is dynamic and public-facing within a retail store that is climate-controlled in customer areas, with some stock rooms less so, and occasional outdoor tasks such as cart retrieval. You will need to be comfortable standing for extended periods, lifting merchandise, accessing high shelves using ladders, and performing regular cleaning duties.
This position offers a base pay range of $11.50 to $13.50 per hour and includes a supportive team culture that values positive interactions and respect among team members and customers. If you are energetic, enthusiastic, organized, and have a passion for customer service and event coordination, this opportunity at Michaels in Solon, OH is an ideal place to grow your career in retail and event management.
