Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is an established leader in the arts and crafts retail industry, widely recognized as the premier destination for creative and celebration needs across North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, including an online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Alongside its retail stores, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further strengthening its commitment to providing customers with unique and high-quality products and services. With a mission to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, Michaels fosters an inclusive climate where innovation, creativity, and community are highly encouraged and celebrated. The company focuses heavily on team member development, offering a supportive environment alongside competitive benefits and opportunities for growth. As the largest arts and crafts specialty retailer in the region, Michaels maintains a customer-first approach, enhancing shopping experiences with expert guidance, diverse product offerings, and innovative event coordination services.
The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels is a dynamic position based within one of its retail stores where the successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and facilitate various creative events, including the popular children's birthday parties and diverse craft classes. This position plays a crucial role in delivering a seamless, engaging, and joyful experience to guests of all ages while ensuring high customer satisfaction and adherence to the company's brand promises. Responsibilities range from direct customer service and facilitating craft projects to executing event logistics and administrative coordination. The Event Coordinator acts as the face of Michaels during these special events, engaging participants from ages 4 to 94 and creating an environment that is lively, educational, and fun. The role demands exceptional multitasking as coordinators may manage several events simultaneously, requiring strong organizational skills and flexibility to adapt plans based on client feedback and evolving store needs.
In addition to event coordination, the position involves various operational responsibilities such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, store cleanliness, and supporting overall store safety and shrink prevention programs. Employees must work collaboratively with their team members, uphold company standards, and embrace the vision and values of Michaels by projecting a positive image and serving as role models. This job requires someone with an energetic and enthusiastic personality who can thrive under pressure while maintaining respect and positivity in all interactions. Experience working with children and a background in retail or customer service are essential to effectively manage the distinct needs of events and retail operations. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, moving within the store, and performing activities involving bending, lifting, and reaching. Store hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings, requiring adaptability to various schedules.
Michaels also offers a comprehensive benefits package to support the wellbeing of its team members and their families. Benefits vary by position and eligibility but often include a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, adoption assistance, tuition support, and access to partner discount programs, among others. The company is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and fostering an environment where all team members can thrive and contribute their best. Overall, this role at Michaels offers not only the opportunity to deliver memorable creative events but also to be part of a vibrant, supportive, and innovative community dedicated to the joy of creativity and celebration.
