Job Description

Michaels is North America's leading specialty retailer of arts and crafts supplies, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada as well as through its online platforms. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the premier destination for customers looking to fuel their creativity and celebrate special moments. Alongside its retail operations, the company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels prides itself on providing an engaging, welcoming environment where creativity is encouraged and customers of all ages can find quality products and services.

At Michaels, the store environment blends customer service with hands-on crafting events and workshops, creating memorable experiences for all visitors. The company is committed to its employees’ wellbeing by offering robust benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Michaels also values diversity and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals, ensuring a supportive and equitable workplace.

The position of Event Coordinator at Michaels in Anchorage, AK, is an exciting role tailored toward planning, coordinating, and executing various in-store events, most notably children's birthday parties and crafting workshops. The role requires energetic and enthusiastic individuals capable of managing multiple events simultaneously while creating a fun and creative atmosphere for customers aged from young children to older adults. The Event Coordinator is responsible for delivering stress-free, engaging activities, providing craft demonstrations, face painting, and managing event setups like gift bags and balloons following company standards.

The coordinator also performs customer service duties, helping clients locate items, ensuring swift and friendly checkout experiences, promoting the rewards and private label credit card programs, and assisting with omnichannel processes like buy-online-pickup-in-store and shipping from store. Effective communication skills are crucial as the position involves administrative tasks such as responding to emails, making calls, and adjusting event plans based on client feedback.

This role demands physical mobility, including standing for extended periods, moving around the store, bending, lifting heavy boxes, and using ladders. The working environment includes a climate-controlled retail space with occasional outdoor tasks such as collecting shopping baskets or unloading trucks. Flexibility is essential as the hours may include evenings, weekends, and early mornings.

Overall, the Event Coordinator plays a vital role in community engagement and customer satisfaction at Michaels, ensuring that the store is more than just a retail space but a vibrant hub for creativity, interaction, and celebration.
