As a local government entity, the Parks and Recreation Department values inclusivity, accessibility, and innovation, consistently seeking to improve its service offerings to meet the dynamic needs of the community. The department also actively collaborates with volunteer boards, local organizations, and city leadership to foster vibrant neighborhood connections and preserve the natural and historical assets of Lansing.

Within this department, the Turner Dodge House stands as a historic landmark offering a unique venue for cultural programs, special events, and interpretive tours. To further elevate the operations and programming at this treasured site, the City of Lansing is currently seeking a dedicated Part Time Event Manager. This role demands strong organizational skills and project management experience as the manager will be expected to design and implement comprehensive event packages tailored to the Turner Dodge House, coordinate city-wide interpretive programs, and oversee classes, tours, and outreach activities that engage and educate the public.

This contract position requires a minimum commitment of 18 hours per week, with the flexibility to increase up to 40 hours depending on scheduled events, offering a dynamic work environment that adapts to the seasonal nature of community programming. The position supports the city’s mission to foster community engagement through culturally rich and well-coordinated public events and programs.

Key responsibilities of the role include staffing and supervising event teams, managing the logistics of event setup and tear down, developing and executing marketing strategies to promote the Turner Dodge House, procuring supplies and equipment, and maintaining accurate financial and payroll records. The Event Manager will also serve as a public relations representative, participating in media interviews and developing promotional materials to enhance visibility and attendance.

Ideal candidates will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation, event management, or a related field, complemented by at least one year of professional experience in property management, rec programming, fundraising, marketing, or volunteer board collaboration. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required, reflecting the occasional travel between work sites. The role is characterized as "at-will," with contract terms extending through June 30, 2027, subject to renewal and departmental discretion.

By joining the City of Lansing, employees become part of a Certified Veteran Friendly Employer, committed to equal opportunity and providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals.
