The role being offered is for a part-time Recreation Specialist within the County of El Paso. This important position works under general direction to assist in the coordination of activities and facilities, primarily focusing on the successful scheduling, setup, and teardown of events. The Recreation Specialist will engage with clients and the public to ensure that events are equipped with the correct furniture, equipment, and amenities as requested. They play an essential role in providing excellent customer service, handling difficult situations diplomatically, and supporting clients throughout their event to ensure client satisfaction. This role includes performing day-to-day cashiering duties, answering customer inquiries about procedures and policies, and maintaining clean and orderly facilities.

Qualifications for this role include a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for those who have completed customer service courses or possess at least one year of experience in event scheduling and setup, as well as cashiering or similar office roles. Knowledge or experience related to special events operations, event logistics, public engagement, and on-site support is highly desirable. The role requires a valid driver's license approved by the County and the possession or acquisition of a personal smart device to access County systems.

Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of County personnel policies, office and inventory operations, customer service principles, and effective communication skills. They must be detail-oriented, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred but not mandatory. The role involves a significant public interaction component, requiring tact, diplomacy, the ability to handle unruly individuals, and a dedication to maintaining safe and welcoming environments for all patrons.

Job Duties

  • Assist with venues in which events will be held and are set up in a timely manner with correct furniture and equipment
  • Handle customer service professionally and effectively
  • Greet customers entering the establishment in a friendly manner
  • Assist with equipment, including audio visual and other event fixtures ensuring they are in good condition
  • Ensure clients are greeted and supported throughout events
  • Set up and tear down events including cones, barricades, and signage
  • Deliver services to customer and client satisfaction
  • Receive and report feedback from customers and clients
  • Communicate with customers via email and telephone for timely project completion
  • Ensure all products and equipment are stored and used safely
  • Inspect equipment regularly for maintenance needs
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints
  • Create and update signage for patrons
  • Investigate workplace hazards and report corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with injury management policies
  • Provide input on operational reports
  • Meet with management to resolve problems
  • Assist public with inquiries and handle difficult customers
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas, including restrooms
  • Perform data entry, mail runs, inventory assistance, and facility opening or closing
  • Attend meetings, training, and information sessions
  • Stay informed on new trends and innovations
  • Substitute for supervisor or coworkers when needed
  • Commit to excellent customer service and team efforts
  • Participate in training and mentoring to develop skills
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Drive to other County locations
