About the Role: The SP Plus Cashier plays a critical role in shaping a positive experience for every customer by ensuring efficient service and smooth traffic flow within the parking facility. This position requires a personable and responsible individual who can handle monetary transactions securely and with accuracy. The cashier will be the frontline representative of SP Plus, tasked with providing exceptional customer service and supporting the operational goals of the facility.

On each shift, the cashier is responsible for managing cash transactions, validating payments, issuing receipts, and assisting customers with their parking needs. The role demands attention to detail when handling cash banks, recording transactions, and preparing shift reports. Alongside transactional duties, the cashier is expected to maintain cleanliness in and around the booth, offer directions to local destinations, and swiftly resolve customer complaints or concerns to uphold the SP Plus promise of making every moment matter.

This role requires adaptability, with possible shift schedules that may include evenings, nights, and weekends depending on location demand. While performing essential job functions, the cashier must demonstrate basic math skills, effectively communicate with customers, and handle common challenges with sound judgment and professionalism.

Job Requirements

  • Less than high school education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Availability to work 2nd shift, 3rd shift and/or weekends may be required
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license with current address and acceptable driving record if required to drive company vehicle
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to maintain pleasant and mannerly demeanor
  • Ability to use clock, calculator or credit card machine
  • Physical ability to sit, walk, use hands, and have close vision
  • Ability to handle customer interactions professionally

Job Qualifications

  • Less than high school education or up to one month related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to make change
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, supervisors and employees
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to use clock (standard/military time), calculator or credit card machine
  • Ability to maintain pleasant demeanor when speaking on the telephone and with the public
  • Ability to effectively respond to customer problems or complaints

Job Duties

  • Treat each customer with respect and kindness, ensuring each interaction delivers on the SP Plus Promise of making every moment matter
  • Be at work every scheduled day, on time and in uniform, ready to assist customers
  • Count 'bank' of revenue at the beginning of shift to ensure starting total is correct
  • Collect cash and/or validations and maintain security of cash
  • Make change and issue receipts or tickets to customers for each transaction
  • Compute or re-compute bill from tickets showing amount due per customer
  • Operate cash register, calculate cost of transactions and display cost to customers
  • Quote prices for parking services and assist customers with directions
  • Complete lost ticket forms when original tickets cannot be located
  • Resolve customer complaints quickly and efficiently, involving supervisor when needed
  • Answer telephone promptly and courteously
  • Maintain cleanliness of booth and surrounding area
  • Conduct timely checks to ensure inventory of necessary work aids and supplies
  • Verify shift transaction logs against cash on hand
  • Record amounts received and prepare shift report
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor
