The position offers competitive pay starting at $18.54 per hour during training and increasing to $20.88 per hour upon successful completion of training, reflecting CARTA's investment in skilled and conscientious operators.

Under the direct supervision of the Care-A-Van Manager, the Paratransit Operator is charged with ensuring passenger safety and comfort during transit. This involves assisting passengers from the door of pick-up to the door of delivery and providing physical support when necessary, including kneeling, bending, and operating wheelchair lifts. Operators are expected to maintain adherence to strict schedules, follow all traffic laws, and uphold the highest standards of customer service. Communication skills are essential, as operators interact regularly with passengers, caregivers, dispatch personnel, and the general public.

In addition to safe vehicle operation, the Paratransit Operator is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely documentation and processing daily reports. Adherence to ADA guidelines, CARTA policies, and all relevant safety regulations is mandatory. The role demands the ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts, showing flexibility to meet the service needs of CARTA's clientele.

The position does not involve supervisory responsibilities but requires a high level of personal accountability and professionalism. Candidates must have a valid CDL Class A or B license with a passenger endorsement or permit, a clean driving record, a valid Department of Transportation medical card, and at least two years of licensed driving experience. Physical demands include the ability to lift at least 25 pounds, perform repetitive motions such as bending and kneeling, and endure prolonged sitting periods.
