Job Description

The Salvation Army, an international evangelical Christian organization, is dedicated to meeting human needs without discrimination. At its core, The Salvation Army operates as a faith-based charity committed to preaching the gospel and providing practical assistance to communities in need. This particular opportunity is at The Salvation Army Green Bay / Kroc Center, which serves as a vital community resource offering a range of social services and programs designed to uplift and assist vulnerable populations. Known for its deep-rooted mission and impactful programs, the organization blends spiritual care with essential social support, creating lasting positive change for individuals and families in the area.

We are currently seeking a passionate and motivated Food Pantry Coordinator to join our team on a part-time basis (25 hours per week). This role is pivotal to the operation of our food services programs, including managing the food pantry, assisting with the noon lunch program, and overseeing essential commodity programs. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring smooth daily operations, maintaining accurate inventory records, fostering relationships with donors and vendors, and supervising volunteers to ensure food is distributed with dignity and care to those in need.

The position offers a competitive pay rate between $16.00 and $19.00 per hour, complemented by a generous benefits package. Employees benefit from 10 vacation days per year, 12 sick days (with 6 eligible to be used as vacation days), 12 paid holidays, 2 personal days, and the chance to earn an additional 2 PTO days through a wellness program. The Salvation Army also provides pension contributions and offers voluntary life insurance options. Moreover, paid training and professional development opportunities are provided to support your growth within the organization.

The Food Pantry Coordinator’s responsibilities extend beyond routine inventory management; they play a key role in planning and coordinating food services, including meal preparation and volunteer support. Compliance with health and safety regulations is paramount, as is the need to maintain all necessary licenses and food handling certifications. This role requires proficiency in commercial kitchen equipment and a strong understanding of food safety, budgeting, and volunteer coordination.

This position calls for an individual who is empathetic, organized, and committed to making a difference. The ideal candidate will have experience in food services involving group meal preparation and inventory management, with a ServSafe certification obtained within 60 days of hire. Skills in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and communication across diverse populations are essential to provide excellent service. The ability to work within budgets, adhere to ethical guidelines, maintain confidentiality, and produce clear reports is critical.

This is a physically active role requiring the ability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and occasional reaching or climbing. The work environment varies from kitchen settings with varying temperatures to outdoor events or community outreach programs. Employees must be willing and able to travel between Salvation Army locations and work flexible hours, including non-traditional schedules.

The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer encouraging applications from back-to-work individuals, US veterans, people with disabilities, those impacted by the justice system, and candidates without a college degree. By joining, you will become part of a charity dedicated to faith, compassion, and community service, supporting a mission to transform lives and promote human dignity through practical help and spiritual support.
