Job Description
First Presbyterian Church (PCA) is a respected and faith-driven church located in Jackson, Mississippi. Dedicated to glorifying God, the Church focuses on making disciples in the neighborhood, communities, and the world. Strategically situated on the corner of North State and Pinehurst Streets in midtown Jackson, this church serves not only local residents but members and visitors from the entire metro-Jackson area. The church prioritizes being a good neighbor and a meaningful gospel witness to its surrounding neighborhoods. Their mission centers on equipping believers to live for Christ in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods, strengthening their faith and community bonding across the region.
First Presbyterian Church is currently seeking a dependable and attentive Part-Time Weekend Overnight Security Guard. This role is essential in providing a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for church staff, members, guests, and facilities. This position is responsible for an armed security presence during the overnight weekend hours, conducting patrols, responding to incidents, and assisting with overnight building oversight. Scheduled to work Saturday and Sunday nights from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, the individual will conduct routine checks of church property including buildings, parking lots, and sidewalks to ensure the safety and security of the campus.
The role is more than just security—it calls for a ministry-minded approach, balancing professional security duties with hospitality, respect, and kindness toward church community members and visitors. The candidate should demonstrate maturity, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to de-escalate tense situations effectively. Carrying and maintaining an authorized firearm and security equipment in accordance with church policies and applicable laws is a critical component of this job. The security guard will also assist visitors, staff, vendors, and emergency personnel as needed, contributing to a harmonious and safe church environment.
This position is part-time with an hourly wage ranging from $17.00 to $20.00, payable bi-weekly. The church expects employees in this role to maintain all certifications, permits, and licensing required to legally carry a firearm and perform armed security duties safely and lawfully. The Church emphasizes compliance with its policies and procedures alongside local, state, and federal laws. The role includes physical requirements such as walking the campus, climbing stairs, and standing for prolonged periods during the overnight shift. The security guard is also expected to maintain professional conduct, appropriate dress, and sound judgment while on duty, ensuring all church safety and firearm policies are upheld consistently.
This job offers a unique opportunity not only to serve as a security professional but also to become part of a faith community dedicated to making a positive impact within its neighborhood and beyond. The Part-Time Weekend Overnight Security Guard at First Presbyterian Church must be reliable, punctual, and attentive, capable of working independently, and ready to respond effectively during emergencies. With an emphasis on supporting the church's mission and values, this role benefits individuals who want to apply their skills in a meaningful, community-oriented setting while working flexible weekend hours.
