The position available is for a full-time Patient Access Specialist in the Department of Urology, working 40 hours a week with a compensation range from $19.15 to $25.85 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. This job is essential for ensuring a seamless ambulatory care experience for patients. The specialist acts as the vital link between the patient and the health care system by processing patient information, scheduling appointments, managing electronic medical records, and facilitating communication between patients and providers. The role demands keen attention to detail, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to perform numerous administrative functions that contribute to the smooth operation of ambulatory care clinics.
Key responsibilities include greeting and verifying patients, collecting demographic and financial information, scheduling appointments, managing various electronic systems such as the electronic medical record (EMR), and providing excellent service to ensure patient satisfaction. The specialist also handles charge reconciliation, telephone management, and assists with coordinating ancillary services. The University of Rochester emphasizes respect for patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- One year related experience in an administrative or customer service field
- Completion of Vision Care 1, 2, 3 courses or equivalent
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and patient access systems
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple processes efficiently
- Commitment to a customer-friendly approach and service excellence
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma
- One year related experience in administrative or customer service field
- Completion of Vision Care 1, 2, 3 courses or equivalent education
- Experience with medical terminology preferred
- Ability to word process and enter data into databases preferred
- Demonstrates ICARE values (integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, excellence)
- Skills related to customer satisfaction achievement
- Ability to act as resource to less experienced staff
Job Duties
- Greets patients and verifies identification using two identifiers
- Collects and enters patient demographic and financial information into EMR and patient access systems
- Schedules new and return ambulatory care visits and ancillary services
- Manages incoming calls, telephone encounters, and routes messages appropriately
- Performs charge reconciliation and ensures accuracy of patient registration data
- Monitors patient waiting area and provides updates on waiting times
- Assesses urgency, handles complaints using service recovery concepts, and serves as a resource for staff
- Assists with clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and recording medication when verified by clinical staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
