Job Description
The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is committed to providing exceptional care and support to the veteran community within the state. This governmental agency oversees facilities dedicated to serving veterans, ensuring they receive not only healthcare but also comprehensive support services tailored to their specific needs. One such facility, the Robert H. Jenkins Veterans Domiciliary Home located in Lake City, Columbia County, functions as a residence and care center for veterans, focusing on improving their quality of life through well-rounded services including medical, residential, and nutritional support.
The Robert H. Jenkins Veterans Domiciliary Home is seeking a temporary OPS Food Support Worker to join its dedicated food service team. This hourly position pays $15.00 and offers a vital role in maintaining the high standards of nutrition and food safety required in a long-term care setting. The role is temporary and paid bi-weekly, with the potential for other similar positions to be filled from this posting within six months of the closing date.
As a Food Support Worker, the incumbent will operate under the supervision of the Food Service Administrator to facilitate the seamless operation of food service activities within the domiciliary home. Responsibilities include ensuring all food is stored, prepared, and served under strict sanitary conditions and within appropriate time frames. The role demands compliance with state safety regulations and facility protocols governing food production and equipment sanitation. Given the nature of the position, the Food Support Worker will engage in physical activities such as lifting up to 50 pounds and must be prepared to work 10-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
Key daily duties include assisting with the preparation of cold foods, managing food inventory by receiving and storing grocery orders, and maintaining cleanliness in food preparation, storage, and serving areas. The incumbent is also responsible for operating and cleaning kitchen equipment like dishwashing machines and food choppers in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Ensuring all dishes and utensils are sanitized properly and that chemical storage is organized and safe is a crucial part of daily tasks. This position also involves preparing bag lunches and sandwiches, recording food and equipment temperatures accurately, and participating in in-service training sessions and departmental meetings.
Successful candidates must be willing to obtain Certified Food Manager status after hire, with training provided at the facility. This position necessitates successful completion of due diligence including level II background checks and drug testing, emphasizing the agency's commitment to a safe and reliable workplace. Preferred qualifications include experience in food preparation within long-term care facilities and basic computer skills, enhancing the worker's capability to maintain records efficiently.
This Food Support Worker opportunity at the Robert H. Jenkins Veterans Domiciliary Home offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of veterans by supporting their nutritional needs in a safe, clean, and organized environment. The temporary nature of the role makes it ideal for those seeking flexible work schedules while gaining experience in veterans' health services and food safety standards within a respected state agency.
