Novolex is a leading manufacturer specializing in food, beverage, and specialty packaging solutions that cater to a wide variety of industries including foodservice, restaurant delivery and carryout, food processing, grocery and retail, as well as industrial sectors. With extensive expertise in manufacturing and sourcing across diverse substrate categories such as resin, paper, molded fiber, aluminum, and more, Novolex offers customers a vast range of both stock and customized packaging solutions. The company's product portfolio includes 120 product categories, more than 250 brands, and over 39,000 SKUs, making it a versatile and reliable supplier in the packaging industry.
Committed to sustainability, Novolex bases its sustainability vision on three pillars: products, operations, and people. These pillars are integral to the company’s growth strategy and future outlook. By embedding these pillars deeply into its culture and operations, Novolex is able to achieve ambitious sustainability goals via extensive company-wide initiatives that promote environmental responsibility, operational efficiency, and employee engagement.
The role available is for an Extrusion Operator Assistant in a manufacturing environment. This position focuses on ensuring the quality of products prior to shipment, including inspections of size, gauge, and roll formation. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate packaging and data collection for each order. Food safety and consumer safety are critical considerations in this role, with expectations for the employee to participate actively in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety training and adhere strictly to GMP policies. Any food safety concerns must be reported immediately and with urgency.
Under the guidance of the Lead Operator and Production Supervisor, the Extrusion Operator Assistant performs a variety of quality control, packaging, data collection, labeling, and machinery duties. The role requires examining product conformity to job ticket specifications, including size, gauge, gussets, and potential product defects such as gels or dirty die faces. Packaging responsibilities include obtaining the proper packaging information and ensuring that final products are packaged neatly and professionally. This role also involves detailed data entry tasks, tracking scrap, and monitoring start and stop times for production jobs in the computer system.
Labeling is another critical aspect, with the operator assistant responsible for acquiring correct labeling information, printing, and properly positioning labels on boxes and pallets. Machinery duties include training for operator responsibilities, learning to operate downstream equipment, performing basic adjustments to the master roll winder, threading equipment, understanding the extrusion process, and maintaining clean and safe working conditions.
This position is essential for maintaining product quality and operational efficiency. It requires a broad technical knowledge base, problem-solving abilities, and strong decision-making skills. The position operates on 12-hour rotating shifts between day and night every 28 days and offers hourly wages between $19 and $23. Novolex values continuous training and expects all employees to engage in ongoing education to improve work processes. This is a non-exempt position subject to overtime regulations. Overall, the Extrusion Operator Assistant position at Novolex offers a dynamic role in a leading manufacturing environment that emphasizes quality, safety, sustainability, and employee development.
