The role of Operations Dock Supervisor at Forward Air is designed for a dynamic leader who can effectively manage the fast-paced and demanding environment of shipping and dock operations. This position requires close coordination of dockworkers, drivers, and supporting personnel to ensure the smooth, timely, and damage-free handling of freight during assigned shifts. The supervisor plays a pivotal role in planning, directing, and controlling resources to maintain high productivity while adhering strictly to established company procedures, safety standards, and operational specifications. Beyond operational oversight, this role involves the direct supervision and training of staff members, providing performance feedback and making disciplinary recommendations when necessary to uphold workplace standards. Key responsibilities include ensuring the facility and equipment are properly maintained, executing safe and efficient load plans, managing customer service communications related to shipping issues, and ensuring compliance with hazardous materials handling regulations. This role also demands physical capability, including frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 90 pounds, reflecting the hands-on nature of the supervisor’s duties. Job Requirements

Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Prior air freight experience
Ability to work weekends and nights
Forklift and general freight handling experience
Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to ninety (90) pounds
Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Job Qualifications

Strong team player that thrives in a fast-paced environment
Ability to drive performance of direct reports and lead a team in a lean manufacturing environment
Prior air freight experience is required
International/import experience is a plus
Must have two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Must possess demonstrated leadership ability
Knowledge of proper freight handling techniques
Knowledge of hazardous materials handling
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
Must be flexible to work weekends and nights
Forklift and general freight handling experience

Job Duties

Ensure all work is performed according to Forward Air approved procedures, standards, and specifications for dock operations
Directly supervise all activities of dockworkers and support personnel engaged in loading and unloading trucks and trailers
Assign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules
Provide guidance to subordinates on goals and objectives on a weekly basis
Field customer calls on service issues, special service requests, rates and new accounts
Ensure proper maintenance of facility, forklift equipment, trailers and handling supplies
Execute appropriate load plans and proper load balance to ensure safe vehicle operation
Coordinate work assignments, monitor performance, and provide training on relevant job duties
Maintain facility appearance, condition and security
Maintain record of those responsible for trailer seal verifications
Perform security checks when facility is dark or during holiday breaks
Perform facility inspections
Assist in the loading and unloading of trailers
Foster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage of hazardous materials as provided by the Department of Transportation
Manage the dispatch of over the road line haul drivers, as well as all safety aspects both in the building and on the road
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to ninety (90) pounds
