Job Description

Forward Air is a prominent and innovative asset-light transportation services provider operating extensively across the United States, Canada, and Latin America. The company specializes in expedited less-than-truckload (LTL) services, encompassing local pick-up and delivery, shipment consolidation and deconsolidation, warehousing, and customs brokerage. These services are supported by a comprehensive national network of terminals, ensuring efficient and reliable freight movement. In addition, Forward Air expands its offering through truckload brokerage services, dedicated fleet operations, intermodal transport, and first and last-mile delivery solutions. The company also provides high-value drayage services to and from seaports and railheads, as well as dedicated contract warehouse and handling services at Container Freight Stations. Beyond traditional freight transportation, Forward Air operates Omni Logistics, a global provider of air, ocean, and ground freight services for mission-critical cargo. This unique combination of domestic and international multimodal solutions positions Forward Air as a comprehensive logistics powerhouse.

The Operations Dock Supervisor role at Forward Air is a vital leadership position responsible for orchestrating the daily activities related to dock operations. This role requires supervising dockworkers, drivers, and supporting personnel engaged in the loading and unloading of freight to ensure operations are completed safely, efficiently, and damage-free. The supervisor will apply strategic planning and resource management skills to meet performance targets while maintaining safety and operational standards. This position operates within a fast-paced and high-volume environment that demands strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication across all levels of the operation.

Working from Saturday through Wednesday from 3:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Operations Dock Supervisor will guide teams through complex logistics challenges while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The salary for this position is $70,304 annually, reflecting the responsibility and expertise needed to lead dock operations within Forward Air’s dynamic network.

Key responsibilities include implementing approved dock operation procedures, directing and assigning job tasks based on loading and unloading schedules, maintaining load plans, and ensuring facility and equipment upkeep. The role also entails coordinating team efforts, providing training and performance feedback, conducting facility inspections, and assisting hands-on when necessary. With a focus on operational excellence and safety compliance, the supervisor must ensure all activities meet Forward Air’s standards and regulations, including adherence to Department of Transportation rules.

Ideal candidates possess 5 to 7 years of management experience in similar high-volume distribution or cargo operations environments, preferably with prior air freight experience. A bachelor’s degree in Management, Logistics, or Industrial Engineering is preferred, alongside expertise in route planning and freight handling techniques. The candidate should demonstrate a strong team leadership capability, adaptability to work weekend and night shifts, and the ability to manage a contingent workforce during peak seasons. A proactive, "can do" attitude with excellent communication and time management skills is crucial for success in this role. Forklift operation experience and the physical ability to move heavy freight up to 90 pounds are necessary for safely overseeing dock activities.

Forward Air values its employees and champions diversity and equal opportunity within its workforce. For those who thrive in challenging, fast-paced logistics settings and possess a passion for driving performance and operational effectiveness, this role offers a rewarding career path with a leading transportation company dedicated to innovation and customer satisfaction.
