The role of Operational Safety Support Specialist at the Ravena Cement Plant is essential for ensuring the proactive management of safety protocols and operational equipment integrity. This position focuses primarily on performing regular, detailed inspections of critical safety equipment such as fire suppression pumps, fire extinguishers, fall protection systems, and a variety of mechanical lifts and rigging apparatus. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all inspection activities and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards including MSHA regulations.

In this role, you will be the key safety liaison for site management and supervisory teams by providing health and safety expertise and support for all safety management aspects. You will coordinate with certified vendors for annual inspections, promote safety through thorough audits of handrails, ladders, stairways, walkways, and emergency equipment, and promptly report any defects or hazards. This position demands a hands-on professional capable of navigating varied environmental conditions, both indoors and outdoors, and working at heights in an industrial setting.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent or 3 years of equivalent experience
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • ability to travel up to 10 percent
  • knowledge of MSHA standards and safety regulations is a plus
  • comfortable working at heights and in industrial environments
  • ability to identify safety hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • basic computer skills for data entry and record-keeping
  • ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods
  • adherence to all safety protocols and proper use of approved personal protective equipment including respirators
  • clean-shaven requirement for respirator fit testing
  • ability to work in diverse environmental conditions indoors and outdoors

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in equipment safety inspections, maintenance, or related fields
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • experience with SAP is preferred

Job Duties

  • conduct routine inspections of fire suppression pumps and perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections
  • provide health and safety expertise and support to site management and supervisors for safety management
  • coordinate and oversee annual fire extinguisher inspections with certified vendors
  • perform anchor point and fall protection equipment inspections
  • conduct handrail, ladder, stairway, and walkway safety inspections
  • inspect hoists, lifts, slings, and rigging equipment for wear, damage, and compliance
  • perform inspections and maintenance checks on man lifts, skid steers, and forklifts
  • complete and maintain logbook entries for all equipment and inspections
  • inspect AED units and ensure they are fully operational
  • perform regular checks on emergency eyewash stations
  • report defects and safety concerns promptly
  • maintain and accurately record inspection logs
  • promote a culture of safety and adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies
