Job Description
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Founded in 1913, ACS has grown into a leading force in the fight against cancer through groundbreaking research, education, advocacy, and patient services. The organization relies on the commitment of both its 1.3 million volunteers and its employees to raise the bar daily in the quest to end cancer for everyone. The ACS culture values diverse backgrounds and experiences to better serve the myriad communities affected by cancer throughout the United States. Employees at ACS focus their talents not just on a job, but on a lifesaving mission that brings fulfillment and purpose in their daily work.
The American Cancer Society is currently seeking a Concierge to join our team. The Concierge serves as the critical first point of contact for guests, managing front desk operations and creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment. This role involves assisting guests with check-in and check-out procedures, responding to inquiries, and coordinating transportation and security services to ensure a seamless guest experience.
This position is on-call and as-needed, requiring availability for daytime, evening, and weekend hours to cover vacations, call-offs, and operational needs at the lodge. Hours vary based on facility demand and are not guaranteed. The pay rate for this role is $19.50 per hour.
Key responsibilities include greeting guests and managing check-in/check-out procedures which constitute approximately 30% of the role. The Concierge also provides detailed information about lodge amenities and available community resources (20%), coordinates transportation and EMPOWER Program services and schedules (15%), and responds promptly to guest requests, concerns, and emergency situations (15%). Additionally, maintaining an organized front desk area with accurate guest records accounts for 10% of the duties. Ensuring lobby security and implementing safety protocols represents the remaining 10%, emphasizing the importance of guest safety and security as integral aspects of the job.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently. Technology proficiency, especially in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems, is essential to effectively perform administrative duties. Customer service excellence and problem-solving capabilities are also critical, as guests' needs and emergencies require tactful, timely, and effective responses.
The role demands physical endurance to maintain standing and walking for extended periods, handling luggage and packages, and engaging in manual guest assistance tasks. This fast-paced job requires flexibility and stamina to provide consistently high-quality service throughout varying shifts.
In addition to competitive hourly wages, ACS staff benefit from a generous paid time off policy, comprehensive medical and dental insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities aimed at enhancing staff skills. The American Cancer Society is a proud equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
