Job Description
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With over 1.3 million volunteers and employees working collaboratively across diverse communities, ACS focuses on advancing cancer research, providing vital support services, and promoting cancer prevention and detection programs. Established as a leader in the non-profit health sector, ACS prides itself on a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and a shared commitment to saving lives and improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. The organization continuously raises the bar by innovating and expanding services to meet the evolving needs of communities across the United States.
This advertisement is for a part-time Concierge position at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge facility located in Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota. Hope Lodge provides lodging and supportive services for cancer patients undergoing treatment far from home, creating a home-like, supportive environment for guests and their families. The Concierge position is the first point of contact for guests arriving at the facility. This vital role involves managing front desk operations, greeting and assisting guests, coordinating transportation and security, and ensuring the lodge remains a safe and welcoming environment.
The Concierge shifts are primarily evenings and overnight hours, allowing flexibility for those seeking part-time employment with less than 20 hours per week. The role offers a pay rate of $19.54 per hour, with additional shift differential pay for evening and overnight hours: 10% for Monday through Friday between 6:00 PM and midnight, 15% for weekend hours, and 20% for overnight hours between midnight and 5:30 AM. While this role is not eligible for benefits due to its part-time status, it offers valuable experience in hospitality, guest relations, and non-profit health services.
Responsibilities include greeting guests and managing check-in and check-out, providing information about lodge amenities and community resources, responding promptly to guest requests and emergencies, maintaining accurate guest records, and ensuring security protocols are enforced throughout the lodge. This fast-paced role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to quality customer service, and the ability to multitask effectively. Physical demands include extended periods of standing and walking, occasional lifting of luggage or packages, and the stamina to support busy guest interactions.
This role requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, and entails minimal travel. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of one year customer service experience, with preferred experience in hospitality or guest services, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional education or training in hospitality management or customer service is a plus, as is proficiency with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems.
Overall, this position at the American Cancer Society offers a meaningful opportunity to serve guests in a compassionate and supportive environment while contributing to a major public health mission. Individuals who thrive in customer-facing roles and want to support cancer patients and their families will find this position rewarding. ACS is an equal opportunity employer offering a collaborative and inclusive culture committed to employee growth and success.
