Job Description

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Established over a century ago, ACS plays a pivotal role in cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. With a robust network of employees and 1.3 million volunteers, the organization continually pushes the boundaries of what is possible in cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and support. At ACS, the culture emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and the importance of serving communities with empathy and respect, reflecting the organization's unwavering commitment to its lifesaving mission.

This part-time Concierge position is based at the ACS Hope Lodge facility in Minneapolis, MN. Hope Lodge provides free lodging and support for cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel away from home to receive treatment. The Concierge acts as the first point of contact for guests, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment that helps ease the stress of travel for those undergoing cancer treatment. This role involves managing front desk operations, including guest check-in and check-out, responding to inquiries, coordinating transportation and security, and maintaining accurate records. Given the sensitive and critical nature of the guests’ needs, excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.

The position typically entails working less than 20 hours per week, mostly during evening and overnight shifts. While this role is not benefits-eligible, it offers competitive pay at $19.54 per hour alongside shift differential pay incentives ranging from 10 percent to 20 percent for evening, weekend, and overnight hours worked. The work environment demands flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to independently handle a variety of tasks, from greeting guests and providing information about the lodge and local resources to ensuring safety protocols are followed.

The successful candidate will possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent and have a minimum of one year of customer service experience. Additional education or training in hospitality management or customer service is advantageous but not required. Prior experience in hospitality or guest services is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the capability to multitask independently are important for success in this role. Because this is a fast-paced setting requiring frequent standing, walking, and some manual labor like lifting luggage, the candidate must have the physical stamina to meet these demands.

Joining ACS means becoming part of a team driven by a powerful collective purpose—to end cancer as we know it. While this particular role is part-time and without benefits, ACS offers a generous array of benefits to its full-time staff, including paid time off, medical, dental, retirement options, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities. The organization is committed to equal opportunity employment and values employees’ diverse talents, supporting their growth and well-being in meaningful ways. For individuals who are passionate about supporting cancer patients and wish to contribute in a vital front-line hospitality role, this Concierge position at the Hope Lodge facility presents an impactful opportunity.
