The role of Nutrition Assistant I at CHI St. Vincent offers a vital frontline position within the hospital’s food services team. As a Nutrition Assistant I, you will directly interact with patients, visitors, and staff every day, ensuring that all dining areas are clean, well-stocked, and that food is prepared accurately and safely. You will play an important role in supporting the nutritional needs of patients by setting up meal trays according to specific nutritional guidelines and patient preferences, thereby contributing to their health and recovery process. This position requires attention to detail, especially in following posted menu requests from the patient room service program and accounting for individual likes, dislikes, and dietary restrictions.

Additionally, the Nutrition Assistant I is responsible for the collection and cleaning of dirty trays and dishes using an automatic dishwasher, followed by properly storing the cleaned items. This role is well-suited for individuals who enjoy helping others, thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting, and who take pride in delivering quality service that positively impacts the patient experience. The job is full-time and typically involves working within a supportive team that covers a variety of food service duties such as cashiering, stocking, cleaning, tray service, and food storage, contributing to the seamless operation of the hospital’s food service department. Job Requirements

  • One year of food service or customer service experience
  • High school graduate or GED preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Capability to adhere to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work full time

Job Qualifications

  • One year of food service or customer service experience
  • High school graduate general studies or high school GED general studies preferred
  • Cashier experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Ensure all food handling areas are sanitized and disinfected for the safety of employees, patients, and guests
  • Exhibit high degree knowledge in food preparation and food production
  • Accurately portion meals and beverages including attention to detail concerning dietary restrictions
  • Support team members in all areas of food services including cashier, stocking, cleaning, tray service, dishwashing, food storage
