Job Description
This job opening is with a nationally respected, faith-based nonprofit health system known for its commitment to advancing perinatal excellence, innovation, and compassionate care. The health system is a leader in maternal and infant health, recognized regionally and nationally for its patient safety initiatives, nursing excellence, and impactful community programs. It operates with a mission-driven philosophy that prioritizes evidence-based practices and invests heavily in next-generation technologies, including robust simulation training and enterprise Electronic Health Record (EHR) optimization. These investments support award-winning clinical outcomes and ensure that the health system remains at the forefront of perinatal healthcare advancements.
The role available is the Labor and Delivery Nurse Manager, specifically focused on leading high-risk perinatal services within this esteemed institution. This Clinical Nurse Manager position is vital to championing clinical quality and compassionate care on a busy high-risk Labor and Delivery unit. The unit comprises approximately 28 dedicated beds, featuring 12 labor rooms, 2 obstetric operating rooms, a 2-patient Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), 2 triage bays, and a 14-bed private mom/baby unit. The Family Birth Center Nurse Manager works closely with a neighboring Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to ensure seamless patient care coordination across the continuum, especially for complex antepartum transfers from across the region.
This unit averages between 150 to 200 births per month and maintains a strong team infrastructure, including in-house OB hospitalist coverage, a designated OB anesthesiologist, Nurse Shift Managers, a Perinatal Safety Specialist, and a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist. The Nurse Manager plays a crucial leadership role, reporting directly to the Director of Labor and Delivery. The position involves collaborating with a diverse and inclusive team consisting of labor and delivery nurses, mother-baby nurses, lactation consultants, neonatologists, OB hospitalists, anesthesiologists, and other allied health professionals.
Key responsibilities of the Perinatal Services Nurse Manager include guiding service line operations, managing staffing and mentorship, stewarding the budget, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role also involves promoting a culture of excellence through continuous quality improvement initiatives, implementing perinatal safety bundles, and advancing breastfeeding success efforts aligned with the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. The Nurse Manager uses data-driven dashboards to drive throughput, capacity management, and enhance patient experience. Moreover, this leader fosters interdisciplinary collaboration through huddles and shared governance models, promoting a supportive and empowering environment for staff.
Beyond the clinical scope, this role offers the chance to live and work in a vibrant Northern California region celebrated for its quality of life. The area is known for its abundant outdoor adventures such as rivers, lakes, year-round trail systems, and proximity to mountains and the coastline. Residents enjoy a lively arts and culture scene with concerts, festivals, museums, and family attractions. Culinary experiences abound with acclaimed farm-to-fork dining, global flavors, and a thriving coffee and craft beverage culture set against a backdrop of sunny skies and mild winters. Balanced lifestyles, strong schools, welcoming neighborhoods, and active community spirit make this an exceptional place for personal and professional fulfillment.
This Nurse Manager Labor and Delivery role offers a highly competitive salary package, comprehensive health and retirement benefits, and the opportunity to join an impactful and nurturing healthcare community. Candidates inspired to lead in a mission-driven environment with a focus on maternal-child health and clinical excellence will find this leadership opportunity both challenging and deeply rewarding.
