Job Description

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to providing holistic support and services to vulnerable populations in the region. As part of a global evangelical movement, The Salvation Army places a strong emphasis on meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals facing challenges such as homelessness, hunger, substance abuse, and mental health issues. With thousands of officers, soldiers, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners working collaboratively, this organization is driven by a mission to 'Do the Most Good.' Its programs span a range of services including safe spaces for youth, sobriety maintenance programs, and outreach for those in desperate need of hope and assistance. The North and Central Illinois Division plays a critical role in delivering these life-changing services throughout the local community, including the Harbor Light Outpatient Department.

The currently open position is for a Night Receptionist at the Harbor Light Outpatient Department, reporting directly to the Billing/Office Manager. This role is categorized as a non-exempt, regular full-time position with a pay grade of 402 and a salary range between $16.30 and $19.56 per hour. The Night Receptionist is essential in facilitating the smooth operation of evening outpatient services. This includes welcoming clients attending evening treatment activities, directing them to groups and individual counseling, and assisting with various administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and maintaining cleanliness and order within the outpatient clinic.

An important aspect of this role involves providing excellent customer service and communication, relaying messages to staff members, and ensuring therapists are promptly informed of patient arrivals. The position demands a professional demeanor and the ability to maintain order in the waiting room, especially when entry doors are locked. Given the sensitive client environment, which includes individuals with poor social skills, mental illness, and substance abuse challenges, employees must respond appropriately within the treatment context and maintain interactions that uphold the respect and care central to The Salvation Army's mission.

Additional responsibilities may include providing coverage at the Harbor Light Residential desk and performing other duties as assigned. Physical demands include light physical work such as walking up stairs and lifting objects up to 25 pounds. This role offers an opportunity to work as part of a supportive team that upholds patient dignity and contributes directly to the mission of The Salvation Army. Candidates with a high school diploma or GED, preferred receptionist or social service experience, at least one year of sobriety, and a positive attitude aligned with the organization's mission are ideal for this position.

The Salvation Army emphasizes inclusivity and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, including veterans, individuals impacted by the justice system, and those without a college degree. Benefit offerings for eligible employees include medical, dental, vision, hearing, disability and life insurance options, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) retirement plans, company-funded pension contributions, and generous time-off policies.
