Penrose Hospital serves as the anchor facility within this network, with 300 licensed beds and a reputation for delivering high-quality tertiary medical-surgical services that emphasize elective and outpatient care. Founded in 1890, Penrose Hospital has evolved into a regional health referral center, renowned for its specialized services in cancer care, cardiac care, emergency trauma, and physical rehabilitation. This reputable institution holds Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), highlighting its commitment to exceptional nursing care and quality patient outcomes. Located in a vibrant community enjoying over 300 days of sunshine annually, mild winters, and proximity to iconic recreational landmarks such as Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, the region offers an excellent quality of life for healthcare professionals seeking both career advancement and lifestyle balance.
The Neonatal Manager Flight Operations role at Penrose - St. Francis Health Services represents a unique leadership position within a critical aeromedical transport environment. This role entails leading and innovating around the operational and clinical aspects of air medical services focused on neonatal patient care. As the Neonatal Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence and promoting clinical proficiency across all flight teams including Flight Registered Nurses (RNs) and ancillary staff. Patient safety stands as a central priority, alongside driving continuous quality improvement and fostering a culture of high performance within emergency medical services (EMS). This position demands strategic oversight of resource allocation to maximize impact and efficiency in a high-stakes environment.
A key element of the role involves empowering and developing the flight team through comprehensive staff development initiatives, specialized continuing education programs, and structured clinical orientation. You will play a critical part in budget management, policy development and implementation, and maintaining operational consistency across various bases. The role also requires diligent oversight of clinical competencies and performance metrics to enhance patient outcomes and uphold the highest standards of care within the air medical program.
Candidates suited for this leadership role will bring a proven background practicing as a Neonatal Flight RN combined with advanced clinical skills and in-depth knowledge of prehospital and critical care protocols. High-level leadership capabilities are essential, including the ability to motivate teams, cultivate collaboration, and develop educational curricula focused on clinical excellence. Experience in performance appraisal and regulatory compliance monitoring specifically within an aviation medical services context is also crucial. This role offers not only the opportunity to make a significant impact on urgent neonatal patient transport but also the chance to shape the future of aeromedical clinical leadership in a respected hospital system. The pay range for this position is between $50.44 and $87.65 per hour, with eligibility for up to $8,000 in relocation assistance depending on candidate location.
