Job Description

Michigan State University (MSU) is a renowned public research university located in East Lansing, Michigan, recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and vibrant campus life. Home to one of the most passionate and spirited student bodies in the nation, MSU boasts a rich tradition in collegiate athletics. Each fall, the university hosts thrilling football, basketball, and hockey games that attract thousands of fans, students, alumni, and community members. The athletic events at MSU are more than just games; they embody school spirit, community cohesion, and a deep pride in the Spartans. The university is currently seeking motivated individuals to join its dedicated team for various positions at these crucial fall sporting events. These roles are essential in ensuring that each event runs smoothly and that fans enjoy a safe, efficient, and memorable experience.

The available positions for this fall include Concession Cashiers, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers, Premium Runners, and Warehouse Support staff. Concession Cashiers and Prep Cooks in particular require ServSafe certification, highlighting MSU’s commitment to food safety and quality standards. Working with the MSU Athletics Department during these high-energy events provides a unique opportunity for team members to engage in a dynamic environment that combines food service, customer interaction, and logistical support. Employees will take part in ensuring that the hospitality aspect of the athletic events meets the high standards expected at a Division I university. This role also offers a flexible employment model, which is well-suited for students, part-time workers, and those interested in seasonal roles.

Specifically, the responsibilities encompass a range of duties including cooking, preparing, serving, and transporting food items, operating point of sale systems in a courteous and professional manner, and maintaining cleanliness standards by sanitizing dishes, cooking tools, and work areas. These tasks require the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a bustling game day environment. Candidates must be comfortable working on their feet for extended periods, engaging with customers, and adapting to a fast-paced and sometimes physically demanding workplace. Attention to detail, such as adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines including hair restraints and personal hygiene when handling food, is critical to maintaining the health and safety standards expected at MSU events.

Overall, this opportunity is ideal for individuals who thrive in energetic environments, have a passion for sports and community involvement, and want to contribute to the experience of thousands of fans cheering on MSU’s Spartans. The positions provide valuable experience in customer service, food handling, teamwork, and event operations while offering flexible schedules primarily during the fall sports season. Being part of MSU’s event staff not only fosters professional development but also builds a sense of pride in supporting one of the country’s top collegiate sports programs. Candidates interested in these roles should be prepared for various physical activities involved in the job and committed to upholding the university’s standards for safety and customer service excellence.
