Job Description
CPS Energy is a prominent public power utility serving the San Antonio, Texas area with a commitment to enhancing the lives of the communities it serves. Established as a reliable source of power generation and distribution, CPS Energy operates with a workforce of approximately 3,500 dedicated professionals, including engineers, electricians, accountants, safety specialists, project coordinators, and much more. Their focus lies not only in providing energy solutions but also in fostering community growth, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring operational excellence. CPS Energy tailors its employment opportunities to attract skilled individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact within the power generation industry. This particular position is situated within the Power Generation sector at the Calaveras location in San Antonio, TX, and is classified under pay grade 18. The deadline to apply for this role is August 3, 2026.
The role available is that of a Work Planning and Process Control Manager responsible for the program development, continuous improvement, and implementation of the work planning and process control program specifically within the power plant maintenance and operations environment. The successful candidate will oversee employees responsible for both short and long-range maintenance planning, as well as coordinating and scheduling routine and outage maintenance activities. They will be tasked with managing contract and organizational maintenance staff resources, monitoring spare parts inventory, and considering system load requirements to optimize maintenance timing and costs effectively.
This role requires creating, reviewing, and evaluating overhaul and outage reports and incorporating lessons learned and improvement techniques into future procedures and maintenance plans. While the position does not include direct line responsibilities for plant maintenance, it holds considerable influence over maintenance management through strategies, system oversight, and employee leadership. The position demands overseeing the development and implementation of key tools including the SAP Maintenance Management system, Primavera Project Planner, and the PaSTA work management system, ensuring integration and smooth functioning of these platforms within the maintenance framework.
In addition, the Work Planning and Process Control Manager is responsible for the development of performance goals, conducting employee performance reviews, and fostering communication across multiple stakeholders including plant foremen, supervisors, craft employees, operations managers, and directors. This includes facilitating monthly meetings to ensure transparency, alignment, and continuous process improvement. Budget management is another critical component of this role, requiring the creation and assistance in area budget planning.
Candidates must have a comprehensive understanding of power plant operations, OSHA safety standards, equipment clearances, and confined space entry procedures. Expertise in SAP and other maintenance management and scheduling software, such as Primavera Outage Scheduling, is highly desirable. The role also values leadership experience, effective communication skills, and the ability to foster collaboration across various organizational levels. Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems, RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), change management initiatives, and process improvement methodologies will support success in this position.
Overall, this role is vital in enhancing the operational reliability, efficiency, and safety of power generation maintenance activities while driving continuous improvement efforts and supporting the workforce that ensures the plant's success.
