The position available is for an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager within the Corporate EH&S Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring that HII's operations adhere strictly to environmental, health, and safety standards in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The EH&S Manager will lead a collaborative team dedicated to EH&S excellence across all HII sites, with particular attention to the needs of naval ship repair and maintenance, a core mission of the division. This role requires a proactive individual capable of conducting site surveillances, delivering targeted training programs, investigating incidents, and maintaining policy frameworks that uphold the highest safety standards.

The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing and improving the company’s EH&S policies and procedures and ensuring that training aligns with OSHA and NAVSEA Standard Items. They will play a central role in identifying and mitigating workplace hazards both aboard naval vessels and at shore-based facilities, requiring a unique blend of technical expertise and leadership skills. The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with site supervisors, regulatory agencies, and varied teams is essential. This position also includes duties such as incident investigation, root cause analysis, workplace safety inspections, and industrial hygiene assessments. Local travel to HII sites within the San Diego area is expected.

This role demands strong interpersonal and communication skills to support employees and management with EH&S questions and emergencies. The EH&S Manager will also be responsible for producing detailed reports and presentations, contributing to continuous improvement efforts and supporting the corporate safety culture. Physical requirements include the use of personal protective equipment, the ability to climb ladders and access enclosed spaces, and managing strenuous tasks such as lifting equipment.

Candidates must have experience using MS Office tools for reporting and presentations and possess or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance with the US Government. Preferred qualifications include certifications such as OSHA-5400 Maritime Train the Trainer and other specific training relevant to shipyard and maritime safety operations.
