The Mess Attendant position at Job Options Inc. plays an essential role in supporting the day-to-day food service operations within the Mess Hall. This role requires a dedicated individual to ensure the mess hall runs smoothly with a consistent focus on cleanliness, efficiency, and high standards of hygiene. The optimal candidate will be responsible for setting up food items on serving lines, portioning and serving according to set specifications and time frames, and maintaining the presentation and sanitation of the dining environment. Beyond food preparation and service, the attendant will replenish various stations such as cold bars and salad bars, replace essential dining items, and operate dishwashing machinery as well as manual cleaning of utensils, dishes, and kitchenware. Physical effort ranging from light to moderate is required, with frequent lifting of objects up to 40 pounds and standing for extended periods.

The job demands attention to detail, strict adherence to sanitation protocols, and the ability to follow safety and infection control standards. The candidate must be capable of understanding and communicating in English, able to interpret safety rules and operation manuals, and demonstrate proficiency in basic arithmetic operations related to measurements and financial transactions. Upon hire, individuals must comply with identity verification and background investigations consistent with federal standards, including obtaining access credentials and adhering to corporate and contract uniform requirements.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Set up food on serving lines, portion and serve food for individual servings in accordance with specifications and time requirements under direction of management staff
  • Replenish cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, milk dispensers and set up dining rooms at an efficient pace
  • Replace glassware, dishes, and silverware, as well as refill condiment containers
  • Clean dining tables and service areas by removing dishes, glasses, and silverware and return to service areas using prescribed methods
  • Operate electric dishwashing machine, loading and unloading, and/or washing flatware, dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils by hand
  • Maintain in a clean and sanitary condition all equipment, utensils, work areas, tables, restrooms, exterior of buildings, ensuring proper sanitization and cleaning processes and procedures are adhered to, and standards reached
  • Empty trash containers and manage waste and recyclables according to pre-established standards and procedures
  • Follow uniform requirements as prescribed in company rules and contract requirements
  • All other duties as assigned based on operational needs
  • Maintain the Five-Star Service standards for excellence
