Job Description

Lanakila Pacific is a committed organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals facing cognitive, physical, social, or age-related challenges. The organization provides a broad range of services aimed at enhancing independence and quality of life. One of its key arms, Lanakila Meals on Wheels, focuses on delivering nutritious meals and essential supportive services to older adults and individuals with disabilities, helping them maintain their health, independence, and dignity. Lanakila Pacific’s approach combines compassion with expertise to address the unique needs of the communities it serves, fostering wellness and self-sufficiency through thoughtful programs and dedicated care.

Within this mission-driven environment, the Medically Tailored Meals program stands out as a specialized initiative that develops customized meals to support individuals managing chronic health conditions. These conditions often require careful nutritional management to promote healing, wellness, and better health outcomes. By creating meals designed explicitly for such medical needs, Lanakila Pacific ensures that vulnerable populations receive not only nourishment but clinically appropriate dietary support to improve their quality of life.

The Medically Tailored Meals Chef plays a critical role within this program. This position involves the development and oversight of specialized meal production that adheres strictly to prescribed nutritional guidelines tailored by healthcare professionals. Serving as a link between culinary expertise and clinical nutrition, the chef works closely with Registered Dietitians and other culinary staff members to create menus that meet the dietary needs of participants while ensuring meals are palatable, visually appealing, and consistent in quality.

The chef’s responsibilities encompass standardizing recipes for large-scale production, modifying portion sizes, and incorporating diet-specific requirements such as renal, diabetic, cardiac, and low-sodium diets. The role demands a strong commitment to food safety, sanitation, and compliance with all relevant regulations, underpinning the organization's dedication to excellence and safety.

Working part-time in a commercial kitchen setting, the Medically Tailored Meals Chef must demonstrate solid leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage meal production efficiently while ensuring quality standards and participant satisfaction. Additionally, the chef is expected to engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives, menu reviews, and community outreach, embodying Lanakila Pacific’s values and STAR service standards.

This position is well-suited for culinary professionals who have experience working with clinical teams or Registered Dietitians and possess knowledge of therapeutic diets. Preferred candidates may have formal culinary training, nutrition certifications, and a personal passion for utilizing their skills to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. The role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a program that directly impacts community health and wellbeing by delivering medically tailored nutrition with care and precision, supporting Lanakila Pacific’s overarching mission to foster dignity and independence through innovative services.
