Labcorp is currently seeking a Technologist to join their team in Carmel, IN. This role operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm and is a key part of the laboratory's operations aimed at delivering high-quality and timely testing services to support patient care and clinical research. As a Technologist at Labcorp, you will be responsible for performing both routine and complex laboratory procedures in line with established departmental standards. You will evaluate specimens for testing eligibility, conduct technical testing procedures, monitor and troubleshoot laboratory instruments, and prepare new reagents or controls as needed. This position requires a keen eye for detail to ensure the accuracy of test results, which directly impacts the quality of patient care.

The role also includes important responsibilities like maintaining a safe laboratory environment by adhering to safety protocols and using personal protective equipment. Additionally, the technologist will be involved in preventative maintenance and quality control tasks to ensure the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment. Being an integral part of a high-volume laboratory, this position demands strong problem-solving skills to make technical decisions related to testing and the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. Candidates should be proficient with computer systems, particularly laboratory information systems, and demonstrate excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience or an MLS degree
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience or an MLS degree
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • 1 year or more of experience with the roche cobas
  • 1 year or more of experience with hematology
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Duties

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
