Job Description
The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is a prominent public health organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support and services to the residents of Nueces County living with mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Serving over 10,000 individuals each year, MHID offers a wide range of psychiatric and behavioral health outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care, and more. The center plays a vital role in improving community health by addressing the unique challenges faced by those with mental health conditions and developmental disabilities, promoting their well-being, and enhancing their quality of life.
As a full-time employer offering an hourly, non-exempt Medical Assistant position at $15.62 per hour, MHID invites dedicated professionals to join their mission-driven team. The Medical Assistant will work under the general supervision of a registered nurse, performing moderately complex medical aide work. This role is essential in supporting the nursing and medical staff by assisting with obtaining medical reports, performing nursing functions, aiding in medical procedures, and carrying out related tasks as assigned. The position is designed for individuals who are passionate about patient care and are committed to assisting vulnerable populations within a trauma-informed care framework.
The Medical Assistant role requires a valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) license and a good driving record with a valid driver's license. Candidates with healthcare work experience and practical training, such as completion of a Medical Assistant Tech school and on-the-job training, are preferred. Additionally, MHID emphasizes continuous learning and development, ensuring that all employees are equipped with knowledge of patient care principles and the ability to use healthcare equipment effectively.
At MHID, employees benefit from a supportive and comprehensive benefits package that includes excellent health, hospitalization, dental, and vision insurance plans, life insurance coverage, a very generous retirement plan with immediate employer contributions, paid time off, holidays, mileage reimbursement, employee referral programs, and more. The center actively promotes employee well-being and professional growth through career ladder opportunities, educational assistance with flexible scheduling, free LPC-A supervision, and student loan repayment programs through the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
The work environment at MHID is grounded in respect, inclusiveness, and a strong commitment to serving the community. As a tobacco-free workplace promoting safety and health, MHID values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, ensuring fair treatment and support for all employees. Joining MHID means becoming part of a compassionate team dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with mental illness and intellectual disabilities, while building a rewarding and stable career in community health services.
