Job Description

Join a leading acute care hospital in central Connecticut as a Medical Laboratory Manager. This hospital, with over 150 beds, is proudly Magnet designated, reflecting its commitment to nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. It has earned numerous accolades for patient safety and superior clinical outcomes, making it a trusted name within the healthcare community. The institution is dedicated to fostering a patient-first culture grounded in clinical excellence and innovation. As a Medical Laboratory Manager, you will play a pivotal role in advancing this mission by leading a high-performing clinical laboratory team within a vibrant, supportive environment where your expertise can truly make an impact from day one.

This role is situated in the heart of a technologically advanced clinical laboratory that integrates specialized disciplines including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, transfusion services, anatomic pathology, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing. Equipped with state-of-the-art analyzers, sophisticated middleware, and a clinician-friendly Laboratory Information System (LIS), the lab is well positioned to deliver rapid and reliable diagnostics that clinicians rely on for critical decision-making. You will partner closely with the Administrative Director of Laboratory Services and Pathology Medical Director, backed by a skilled team of supervisors, section leads, and an LIS/quality assurance group to ensure the highest standards of CAP, CLIA, and TJC compliance.

In this leadership capacity, you will oversee key operational areas such as process improvement initiatives, staffing and workforce development, budgeting, inventory optimization, vendor management, and instrumentation lifecycle oversight. Your role will also entail driving laboratory quality through rigorous validation, proficiency testing, adherence to regulatory requirements, and leveraging key performance indicators to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Collaboration is central to this role; you will engage daily with a diverse interprofessional care team, including nurses and clinicians, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement. The laboratory serves as a critical nexus in the hospital’s care delivery, supporting cutting-edge investments in advanced diagnostics and AI-enabled decision support that accelerate turnaround times and improve patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

Relocating Medical Laboratory Managers will find central Connecticut an enriching place to live and work. The region offers four distinct seasons with abundant outdoor recreational opportunities along the scenic Farmington River and nearby state parks. Cultural amenities such as renowned theaters, museums, and a dynamic culinary scene provide enriching lifestyle options. The area boasts strong educational institutions, from excellent K-12 schools to reputable colleges and universities, making it ideal for professionals with families. Commutes are short with easy access to major highways I-84 and I-91 as well as regional rail connections, and Bradley International Airport offers convenient travel links. The community is celebrated for its safety, cleanliness, inclusivity, and vibrant local festivals throughout the year. Housing costs and overall cost of living are competitive compared to larger metropolitan areas, creating an excellent balance of urban convenience and suburban comfort.

The hospital offers a competitive compensation package including performance-based incentives, potential sign-on bonuses, and relocation assistance to qualified candidates. Benefits are comprehensive, encompassing medical, dental, vision, retirement plans with matching contributions, generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition assistance programs, certification pay, life and disability insurance, and extensive well-being resources.
